Background:

The question was simple: Wolf Trap wanted a better digital experience that enhanced the user journey, as well as their legacy. And so, we gave them a website worth singing about.

Design & Interaction

Beginning with existing wireframes, we crafted a hierarchy to enhance the user journey, making it virtually seamless to navigate. We showcased crucial features on the homepage that not only deepened user engagement, but also reflected Wolf Trap's remarkable venue:

  • Interactive seating charts
  • Personalized directions through Mapquest
  • Dining and hospitality planners
  • Discussion boards

With hundreds of performances, classes and events, we integrated a simple, yet fun selection process using cutting-edge rollover animations, color coding and filtering systems. Keeping a contemporary look and feel in mind, we composed a visually stimulating mix of clean typography, rich overtones and muted hues that resonated with visitors old and new.

But that was just the half of it...

Wolf Trap loved the new site so much that they asked us to design three more:

  • Education – an online resource for educators of the arts
  • My Wolf Trap – an exclusive portal for Wolf Trap members
  • Opera – a blog-centric platform tailored to opera-enthusiasts

One brand strategy and four separate user experiences later, we launched each one with full mobile and tablet responsiveness.

Web Development

Our front-end developers partnered closely with our technical team to perfect the design process, implementing Sitecore as their CMS. This allowed Wolf Trap to easily update content on-the-spot. In fact, Wolf Trap was our first client to use Sitecore 7.5, which sits on the Mongo DB.

On the front-end, we utilized BEM for coding, a naming methodology that allows sites to be coded faster and more efficiently. Sass, the world's most powerful, professional-grade CSS extension, was used to style the website.

Going a step further, they actualized visually stimulating CSS3 animations for user interactions. Also, font icons were used to create resolution-independent graphics, allowing them to scale and maintain quality regardless of device.

Results

The result of all this? A digital symphony of sites that play to Wolf Trap's extraordinary tune, while creating a memorable user experience. This symphony will continue to grow as Wolf Trap's online presence evolves, and as we continue to generate extensive custom development.
